I trained with the British Mindfulness Institute and work from Jon Kabat-Zinn’s definition.

Have you ever noticed that when you are doing quite familiar and repetitive tasks your mind is often miles away thinking about something else?

On automatic pilot?

Mindfulness is the opposite.

It is about experiencing the world in the here and now – being.

Mindfulness offers a way of freeing oneself from automatic and unhelpful ways of thinking and responding. If you need help with concentration, productivity, stress, managing pain or would simply like your life to be calmer, get in touch.

Liz, told me about her caring role for her husband who lives with MS and her son with a learning disability and physical health problems requiring surgery. She was very distressed, a routine mammogram resulted in a treatable breast cancer whilst she was undergoing treatment for a kidney malfunction.

Noticing her shallow breathing I invited her to join me in a short meditation practice. Afterwards she told me how wonderful she felt and how useful the that short time had been. She remains keen to slow herself down as regularly as possible to help herself engage with her healing process.

Attending a training course as someone with a physical disability I shared my needs in order to fully participate in plenty of time. On arrival I discovered the training room had been set up on the first floor with no direct public lift access. The venue were embarrassed, the front of house staff had no training to manage the situation, nor any authority to alter the arrangements and the facilitator’s training schedule was delayed, affecting everyone in attendance. In time the organizer contacted the venue and a new training room was planned for the following day.
